A final reminder that Quiz Bowl II, Milwaukee's sports and pop culture trivia tournament is this upcoming Sunday January 29th! Register your team now!

It was mind-bending night of quizzin' at the Ale House for its weekly trivia showdown this past Monday.

The usual group of Third Ward queeps converged to take on the Quizmaster and win some moolah, although in the end it was the recently-dominant trivia force of Everybody hurts from yesterday's drinking! that took top honors for the second week running, and they will once again grace the table cloth at next's week quiz.

And although their team name was incorrectly omitted from the league table, after back tracking some scores they now also sit top of the league after three weeks! Will a new champ be crowned come February 27th??!?!

Elsewhere, it was the crew of Text and Drive that finished second, and they teamed up with the lovely ladies of The Ineffectual Eyes of Newt for a post-quiz pic...

Good to see the latter back after a brief holiday hiatus!

And of course, the best team name went to the familiar faces of He-Man: Proving that UGGs have been uncool since the beginning of time...

Great effort of 45 points from the two-person duo as well!

Homer joins the "Hullabalooza" music
festival as a carnival freak

"Homerpalooza" is the 24th episode of The Simpsons' seventh season and originally aired on May 19, 1996. The plot focuses around Homer's depression about aging and no longer being cool, and his quest to become cool again by joining the "Hullabalooza" music festival as a carnival freak.

After the school bus is destroyed at the auto wrecking yard, Homer is forced to drive his (and other) kids to school. Along the way, he listens to a classic rock radio station and is shocked to discover that all of the kids hate it. As a result, Homer decides to take Bart and Lisa to the Hullabalooza music festival. After being tossed out by the crowd, Homer angrily kicks a cannon, which shoots one of Peter Frampton's inflatable pigs (purchased at "Pink Floyd's yard sale") at his stomach. The festival head is impressed and Homer is hired as a part of the festival's freak show.

As a result, Homer gets to go on tour with the festival and hangs out with The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill and Sonic Youth. As the tour approaches a stop in Springfield, Homer's stomach begins to hurt and he is sent to a veterinarian. The veterinarian advises Homer that if he performs his act one more time, his stomach will burst and he will die. Homer shrugs this news off, not wanting to lose his popularity. At first he decides to do his job, but at the last second he loses his nerve and dodges the cannonball. He is released from the festival and goes back to not being respected by his children

Quit Drinking?! This is Milwaukee!! Quiz Bowl next Sunday!

Just a brief reminder that Quiz Bowl II, Milwaukee's sports and pop culture triva tournament is next Sunday January 29th! Register your team now!

It was another bustling night of thinking and more-so drinking at the Ale House again on Monday. Teams were in good spirits as they competed for the usual bar tabs, and a wager bonus round on the evening made things especially fruitful.

We like the word 'fruitful' by the way.

Anyhow, the night's champs came from the unlikely foursome (giggity) of Too Legit to Quit Drinking, who tallied 56 points and a perfect bonus round...

Fuckin' damn right. They are legit. They don't quit. They're not full of shit. They probably dislike Brad Pitt. They like old skool video games, 16-bit. They also kinda fit.

That's right, Quizmaster's got lyrical flow... like K-Fed.

Anyway, the show was a good one, with some teams (**cough** Pluckers **cough**) getting screwed over by the Scrabble question about the value of the letter M. Yes, three points for an M, not four as the inferior Word with Mates might suggest.

Anyway, Miltown Junks (who are apparently "back" - although we think it remains to be seen - that's a challenge from Quizmaster headquarters MJ) took second spot in the end.

The coveted 1000 cent prize for best team name went the way of third-place finishers The Packers defense went down faster than an Italian cruise ship, who were awarded a half point for knowing that Kathryn Bigelow was a gold-digging best director, although they weren't sure of her actual name...

By the way, if you're looking to go on vacation there are a ton of deals on cruises right now.

That's legit.

Anyway, we've had way to much fun with this post and it's time to end it.

Next Monday, Quizmaster Ryan will down a pint after each round.

In 1961 the first human space flight launched
Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin into orbit

Vostok 1 (Russian: Восток-1, East 1 or Orient 1) was the first spaceflight in the Vostok program and the first human spaceflight in history. The Vostok 3KA spacecraft was launched on April 12, 1961. The flight took Yuri Gagarin, a cosmonaut from the Soviet Union, into space. The flight marked the first time that a human entered outer space, as well as the first orbital flight of a manned vehicle. Vostok 1 was launched by the Soviet space program, and was designed by Soviet engineers guided by Sergey Korolyov under the supervision of Kerim Kerimov and others.

The spaceflight consisted of a single orbit of the Earth. According to official records, the spaceflight took 108 minutes from launch to landing. As planned, Gagarin landed separately from his spacecraft, having ejected with a parachute 7 km (23,000 ft) above ground. Historian Asif Siddiqi has written that Gagarin was in the spacecraft for 108 minutes after launch, and that he didn't touch ground for another 10 minutes. No Snow? No Problem?! Pub quiz instead!

It was a absolutely rockin' night of quizzin' at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday, as 16 teams and over 80 queeps got involved to start the bar's 25th trivia league!!

Yes, Quizmaster's longest serving pub hit a quarter-century of leagues on the night! All new teams need to know: show up for (at least) six of the eight weeks of league play and keep a regular team name (or let us know if you change it!) We'll tally you're score in a table (to the right) and give out extra swag at the end of the 8 weeks!

And having finished third in the last league - low by their 8-championship-winning-standards - it was Miltown Junks that got off to a flyer, as they won on the night...

We think most of their team bailed to avoid getting their picture taken again! :p

Elsewhere, the best team name prize was hotly contested as ever, but it was bottom of the pack's SIT ON MY FACE (yes, it was capitalized on their sheet) that took away the $10 prize...

Trust the ginger to come up with that name! Congrats lads, come back soon!

And being that Quizmaster is an all-inclusive, non-discriminative, quite-truly-awesome organization, we like to get photos of any and all quizzers, so No Snow in January, despite not placing in the prizes, got a little snap at the end...

Not bad for first timers. Perhaps they'll make a run for it in the league!?

The Tuskegee Airmen is the popular name of a group of African American pilots who fought in World War II. Formally, they were the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. During World War II, African Americans in many U.S. states still were subject to the Jim Crow laws. The American military was racially segregated, as was much of the federal government. The Tuskegee Airmen were subject to racial discrimination, both within and outside the army. Despite these adversities, they trained and flew with distinction.

The Jim Crow laws were state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. They mandated de jure racial segregation in all public facilities, with a supposedly "separate but equal" status for black Americans. In reality, this led to treatment and accommodations that were usually inferior to those provided for white Americans, systematizing a number of economic, educational and social disadvantages. De jure segregation mainly applied to the Southern United States. Northern segregation was generally de facto, from blacks predominately living in urban ghettos.

John Smith's... But I Barely Know Him! League Finale!

It was the first quiz of 2012 at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday, and the bar's conclusion to its latest 8-week trivia league... and you know what that means? More prizes to go around!

As well as the usual 1st place, 2nd place and best team name tabs, the Ale House was also dishing out free beer to the league champs and runners-up.

And those Pluckers, aka Pluck the Ducks, didn't disappoint, having led for the majority of the league season they were able to keep their cool (with just four players!) and take the championship honors...

That's there second league title in as many tries now, although Milwaukee quiz juggeranut the Miltown Junks still sit top of the pyramid with their 8 league titles at the Ale House.

Elsewhere, Christmas came late this year as regular Text and Drive took second in the league, first on the night, and also got a couple of cans of delish John Smith's beer, fresh from the Quizmaster's trip back to London...

Congrats on the win(s)!

And because we're all inclusive at Quizmaster, and no team can win multiple prizes, the first place prize on the night was passed on to New Hampshire? I Barely Know her, who weren't at all offended by taking the $40 via default...

Which also meant that I heard that Justin Bieber of Time Square when it's ball dropped on NYE got a default second place prize on the night...

The beer goes down all the same, default or not!

The night's gong for best team name went to Sandusky's new book: men who love boys (a play of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's literal translation of "Men who hate women"), but given the delicate nature of their best selling novel, they opted against ANOTHER team picture in the end.

A new league, the Ale House's 25th, will get started next Monday at 8pm and run for the usual 8 week spell!

At the end of 29 December 2011, Samoa jumped forward by one day, omitting 30 December from the local calendar, when the nation moved to the west of the International Date Line. This is anticipated to help the nation boost its economy by doing business with Australia and New Zealand. Before this change, Samoa was 21 hours behind Sydney, but the change means they are now three hours ahead. Team America does it again! Final quiz of 2011, returns Jan. 2nd!

It was the final quiz of 2011 at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday, as the bar takes a break on boxing day (December 26th) before returning on January 2nd for its quiz league finale.

And it was a rather festive one in the end, with some Christmas-inspired team names (along with some North Korean dictator-inspired ones too!) and some Christmas trivia also featuring.

In the end, it was quiz regulars Every time you text and drive that got the last laugh as their 47 points was good enough for a win in the end...

League leaders, under the name O, Trivia Newton John, took second place on their final outing of the year...

And the prize for best team name was as closely contested as ever, although in the end the Quizmaster sympathized with Much Like Lewinsky, team names about her are too easy...

Another team name win for them! The Quizmaster tries to avoid giving it to them!

But being the good sport that he is, Quizmaster Ryan gave team Kim Jong Il, Ghaddafi and Bin Laden all die in the same year? May be there really is a team America! (America, fuck yeah!) a prize for all their effort - offering to buy them a pitcher (out of his own pocket!) the next time they're in for quiz.

White snakes always win! League end date now Jan 2nd!

It was another full house at the Milwaukee Ale House again on Monday, as things got spiced up in the bar trivia league standings with just two quizzes left to play!

The final quiz night of the year will be next Monday December 19th, 2011 as the bar takes a break on boxing day (that's December 26th, America!) before resuming again on Monday January 2nd, 2012. That date will be the finale of the trivia league too!

Anyway, the night's game included a wager bonus round to increase the maximum points total by 10, and it was regular team name honorees The only part of Tim Tebow that never wins: his White Snake that took full advantage and won on the night....

Besides best team name awards - which they have been honored with many a time - it was their first ever win (first or second place finish) in all their illustrious months of playing Quizmaster at the Ale House.

We hear they were pretty average for the first three-quarters of the quiz, but their final quarter was immense! It seems that although it's never pretty, that Tebow guys knows how to win!

Second place was to be determined by a sudden death tie break, as team Saddam Hussein's White Snake... and Every time you text and drive (aka Braun tests positive for Tebow juice) went head to head on 51 points.

The latter came out with the victory though as they were better assessed as to when the first Kentucky Derby was....

And finally, with all the Tim Tebow and Whitesnake innuendos flying around, it was eventually the team known as Only thing smaller than our score is Ryan Braun's balls that took the team name accolade...

Much to the distaste of some loyal (and perhaps in-denial) Brewers fans :p

The final quiz of 2011 is Monday the 19th! It should be a fun one!

habitable: it's about 600 light years away

Kepler-22b is the first confirmed extrasolar planet found by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope to orbit the habitable zone of a Sun-like star. Kepler-22b, a possible super-Earth, is roughly 600 light years away from Earth, in orbit around the G-type star Kepler-22.

The discovery was announced December 5, 2011. The planet was originally discovered on Kepler's third day of science operations in mid-2009. The third transit was detected in late 2010. Additional confirmation data was provided by the Spitzer Space Telescope and ground-based observations.

Kepler-22b's radius is roughly 2.4 times the radius of Earth, or about half that of Neptune. Its mass and surface composition remain unknown, with only some very rough estimates established.

The only parameters of the planet's orbit that are currently available are its period which is about two hundred and ninety days, and its inclination, which is such that it transits the disk of its star as seen from Earth.

No information is available about the shape of the planet's orbit. Many extrasolar planets are known to move in highly elliptical orbits. We only know that the semi-major axis of its orbit is within the habitable zone of an Earth mass planet. If Kepler-22b has a highly elongated orbit it may well only spend a small fraction of its time within this habitable zone.

It was a near-full house at the Ale House in Milwaukee this past Monday night, as the Quizmaster welcomed in fifteen teams to compete for the usual three prizes.

Quiz night also saw the debut of what was being described on the streets of the Third Ward as "the greatest picture question in the history of pub quiz."

Their words, not ours :)

Guys with Winehouse eyes debuted to a roaring success...

Transvestites. We thinks not.

Anyway, quiz night got underway at 8pm and after 30 questions, six rounds and about five points the lead was shared by two teams with 47 points out of a possible 50. Ultimately, it was current league leaders and defending league champs How you doin... wanna pluck? that would walk away with top honors...

Yes, we would like to pluck.

Call 414-PLU-CKER for a good plucking good time.

That meant the defeated finalists were My couch pulls out... but I don't. But they still walked away with $20 nonetheless...

And as always, the "people's prize" for best team name was heavily contested, with I miss Fat Jonah Hill and Jodie Foster's Knuckles (Family Guy reference, people!) making the final cut, but in the end it was the (non-racist, honest!) team of What's brown and rhymes with Snoop?... Dr. Dre that took another team name accolade...

They actually do have an African-American (political correctness people!) on their team but he couldn't make it this week...

Coincidence, no?

We thinks not.

Alcatraz Island is an island located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) offshore from San Francisco, California, United States. Often referred to as "The Rock" or simply "Traz", the small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison, and a Federal Bureau of Prisons federal prison until 1963. Beginning in November 1969, the island was occupied for more than 19 months by a group of American Indians from San Francisco, who were part of a wave of Indian activism across the nation, with public protests through the 1970s. Later, in 1972, Alcatraz became a national recreation area and received designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

It was a pretty bustling night of pub quiz at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday night. The league hit its half way stage on the evening, and things in the league table are starting to spice up!

And league-hopefuls Mitlown Junks took away top honors in the end, with Text and Drive pulling into second place with 46 points...

And following the final question, the Quizmaster then continued by allowing ALL teams to play sudden death! The team with the closest number of on-screen kills by Jack Bauer (in 8 seasons of the show) would get a FREE pitcher of beer :p

Team I Fuckin' Love B-DUBZ answered zero...

We think they weren't really bothered about it! Quizmaster Ryan jumped into the frame for their pic too!

Good times.

John Joseph Travolta (born February 18, 1954) is an American actor, dancer and singer. Travolta first became known in the 1970s, after appearing on the television series Welcome Back, Kotter and starring in the box office successes Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Travolta's acting career declined in the early 1980s and continued to deteriorate throughout the remainder of the decade. His career faced a resurgence in the 1990s with his role in Pulp Fiction, and he has since continued starring in Hollywood films including Face/Off, Ladder 49, and Wild Hogs.

Travolta was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance in Get Shorty.

Travolta's first California-filmed television role was as a fall victim in, Emergency! (S2E2), in September 1972, but his first significant movie role was as Billy Nolan, a bully who was goaded into playing a prank on Sissy Spacek's character in the horror film, Carrie (1976). Around the same time, he landed his star-making role as Vinnie Barbarino in the TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter (1975–1979), in which his sister, Ellen, also occasionally appeared (as Arnold Horshack's mother). The show aired on ABC.

It was a night of drinking, thinking and thanking this Monday night at the Ale House, as a pre-thanksgiving quiz got underway at 8pm.

It was fitting then that the aptly named Happy Plucking Thanksgiving (GO LIONS!!), the bar's trivia league leaders, that took pole position...

Go Lions!? Ain't gonna happen, people! Oh, and Mrs KelseyK was in the toiler for the photo, and we were supposed to Photoshop her in under Dave's arm.... may be next time! :)

The Quizmaster was also joined by newcomers Seriously... What ever happened to Nelly and Sisqo?....

We think they're working in a Burger King in Paris, Texas with Elvis and Robert Kennedy.

Also, in the house on the night were the conglomerate of Poopy Ninny Muggins, who tallied up a credible 41 points on their Quizmaster debut...

And the night's best team name went to My favorite Thanksgiving Dish: Stuffing Ms Daisy...

Ms Daisy, she's the best!

Celebrated it's 150th anniversary in 2009

Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and is generally extended to refer to the clock or the clock tower as well. It is the largest four-faced chiming clock and the third-tallest free-standing clock tower in the world. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009, during which celebratory events took place. The erecting of the tower was completed on 10 April 1858. The clock tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city.

The present Clock Tower was raised as a part of Charles Barry's design for a new palace, after the old Palace of Westminster was largely destroyed by fire on the night of 16 October 1834. The new Parliament was built in a Neo-gothic style. Although Barry was the chief architect of the Palace, he turned to Augustus Pugin for the design of the Clock Tower, which resembles earlier Pugin designs, including one for Scarisbrick Hall. The design for the Clock Tower was Pugin's last design before his final descent into madness and death, and Pugin himself wrote, at the time of Barry's last visit to him to collect the drawings: "I never worked so hard in my life for Mr Barry for tomorrow I render all the designs for finishing his bell tower & it is beautiful." The tower is designed in Pugin's celebrated Gothic Revival style, and is 96.3 metres (316 ft) high (roughly 16 stories).

It was a more regular-looking crowd at the Milwaukee Ale House this Monday night, following the bar's annual Halloween costume quiz last week.

The new league also rolls on, hitting week two on the night. And league rivals THE Miltown Junks and Pheasant Pluckers went head-to-head again, having tied on 44 points in the end. Ultimately the lads (*sausagefest*) of Miltown Junks won out in a sudden death showdown...

Speaking of showdowns, that reminds us....

Anyway, the award for best name was hotly contested as ever, with the I Hope Those Legos Wore a Rubber taking home the $10 following their reference of the Brokeback Mountain lego parody picture question...

And don't forget there's no quiz next Monday at the Ale House due to the Monday Night Football Packers game, but Quizmaster Cup is this Sunday!

Richard Dawson Kiel (born 1939) is an American actor best known for his role as the steel-toothed Jaws in the James Bond movies The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979) as well as the video game Everything or Nothing, and Mr. Larson in Happy Gilmore. He was 7 feet 1.5 inches tall in his prime but now due to injury and age, he is slightly under 7 feet tall.

He and Arnold Schwarzenegger were the original choices to play the title character in the 1977 TV series The Incredible Hulk. Schwarzenegger was turned down due to his height. Kiel participated in the filming of the TV movie pilot. During the shoot, producers decided their Hulk needed to be muscular rather than just towering, and Kiel was dismissed because he possessed more body fat than the producers deemed necessary. According to a Den of Geek interview, Kiel, who sees properly out of only one eye, also reacted badly to the contact lenses used for the role, and found the green makeup difficult to remove, so he did not mind losing the part. All recognizable footage of Kiel was cut; the scenes were then reshot with Lou Ferrigno.

Before breaking into film & TV Kiel worked in numerous jobs including a night club bouncer and a cemetery plot salesman.

Look in the Mirror: It's Halloween!!! Costume Quiz Recap!

Just another heads up that Quizmaster Cup VI is next Sunday November 13th, and spots are limited! Register now to reserve your team's table!...

It was a hair-raising night of pub quiz at the Milwaukee Ale House this past Monday, as it was also Halloween!

And this year, it actually was Halloween (Oct. 31st), and for the third-year running it was the Halloween Costume Quiz Nite at the Ale House, with about 18 percent of queeps showing up all dressed-up!

And that meant that (on top of the usual $75 in Ale House tab prizes) there was an additional $50 up for grabs for the best dressed team on the night.

And judging by one team's outfit there would be some creative "costumes" in the mix on the night...

That certainly had the Quizmaster questioning his sanity, and looking in the mirror too!

But more about them later.

In the end, while a number of quizzers came dressed to impress, some were looking kinda spooky....

Hillary, Palin alert!! They even have the right posture for politics!

The prize for best team name - unrelated to any sort of dressing-up antics - went to You're Costume is So Bad... Only Your Hand Can Make Your Bedrock, who were referencing the Quizmaster's awesome attire....

There's definitely no best-dressed award for that Aston Villa shirt!! We all know there's only one claret-and-blue team! COYI

Elsewhere, the night's quiz winner was determined via sudden death after two teams tied on 55 points, with the Kanye West-referencing I'mma let you finish, but first that's the worst pumpkin carving of all time - 0f all time taking top spot in the end...

Excellent finish for the two person ~~crew~~ pooh!

They outshone the defending league champions The Mother Plucking Wickens Brigade in the tie breaker, although their creativity on costume ideas could not be outdone...

Although, if there was a prize for sexiest team of all time - of all time - then they certainly would drink for free every Monday!

And the man they duplicated - the Quizmaster - teamed up with them for another pic...

We knew he had more hair in real life!

And so the prize for best dressed - a $50 bar tab and FREE entry to next Sunday's Quizmaster Cup VI - was split two ways, as the Quizmaster was torn by the outfits of two teams!

First up, it was the trio of the The Bootlegging Robot Pirates, who adequately dressed as a dirty scallywag, Halo character and 1920s flapper....

Home-made Halo costumes! Good stuff!

They teamed up with Quizmaster 'Fred' and team Clinton's Cum stock was in Ta-Hoe, with the latter taking half of the $50 tab and QM Cup tickets also...

Alan from The Hangover, Clark Kent (or is that Superman - we're not sure?) and Indiana Jones all featuring among their crew!

A new quiz league also got underway on the night, set to run up until Christmas for an 8-week spell!

The Comstock Lode was the first major U.S. discovery of silver ore, located under what is now Virginia City, Nevada, on the eastern slope of Mount Davidson, a peak in the Virginia Range. After the discovery was made public in 1859, prospectors rushed to the area and scrambled to stake their claims. Mining camps soon thrived in the vicinity, which became bustling centers of fabulous wealth.

It is notable not just for the immense fortunes it generated and the large role those fortunes had in the growth of Nevada and San Francisco, but also for the advances in mining technology that it spurred. The mines declined after 1874.

The discovery of silver in Nevada (then western Utah Territory) in 1858 caused considerable excitement in California and throughout the United States. The excitement was the greatest since the discovery of gold in California ten years earlier at Sutter's Mill.

Gold was discovered in this region in the spring of 1850. It was discovered in Gold Canyon, by a company of Mormon emigrants who were part of the Mormon Battalion. After arriving much too early to cross the Sierra, they camped on the Carson river in the vicinity of Dayton, to wait for the mountain snow to melt. They soon found gold along the gravel river banks by panning, but left when the mountains were passable, as they anticipated taking out more gold on reaching California. Other emigrants followed, camped on the canyon and went to work at mining. However, when the supply of water in the canyon gave out toward the end of summer, they continued across the mountains to California. The camp had no permanent population until the winter and spring of 1852–53, when there were 200 men at work along the gravel banks of the canyon with rockers, Long Toms and sluices.

Winning the League Aint Easy! Halloween Costume Quiz Next Monday!

Just a heads up that the Halloween costume quiz takes place this Monday October 31st at the Ale House...

Show up dressed to impress!!

And also, another quick reminder that Quizmaster Cup VI, Milwaukee's pub trivia tournament, is coming November 13th, with online registration opening this Monday October 24th...

But all that jazz aside, there was a quiz to had at the Ale House on the Monday... and it was the league finale of the current trivia league!

And in a sick twist of fate, a new champions would also be crowned!

After an 8 week spell, which witnessed some impressive tallies (including a perfect score one week), it was regulars Plucking Aint Easy that secured poll position and their first league title on the night...

The mugs of regulars Kelsey and Dave can be seen inset, with the latter returning from the U.K. on the night, and unable to be there for the glorious victory. We understand he flew from Manchester to London Gatwick, transfered to London Heathrow, flew to O'Hare and then finally flew into Mitchell in Milwaukee!!

But we're guessing your team didn't need you big man!

Their accumulative score of 304 points was just four better than 8-time champions Miltown Junks, who graciously excepted second place in the end. We know they'll be back to compete for honors again during the winter league!

We want to thank all the teams that consistently came out to make this league a success. A new quiz league will start next week during the Halloween Costume Quiz and run up until Christmas!!

Anyway, on the night, with the top two finishers also taking first and second in the league table, it was fourth placed I Data Guy that took runner-up honors (a $20 tab) by default, but they weren't complaining one bit...

And the best team name prize (which 75 percent of attendees go for each week) was once again swallowed up by the trivia faithful of What's the Opposite of Christopher Reeve?.... Christopher Walken...

Damn!!

Despite its depiction in popular culture, the
French prisoner's face was actually covered
by a black velvet cloth, not an iron mask.

The Man in the Iron Mask (French: L'Homme au Masque de Fer) is a name given to a prisoner arrested as Eustache Dauger in 1669, and held in a number of jails, including the Bastille and the Fortress of Pignerol (today Pinerolo). He was held in the custody of the same jailer, Bénigne Dauvergne de Saint-Mars, for a period of 34 years. He died on 19 November 1703 under the name of Marchioly, during the reign of Louis XIV of France, 1643-1715. The possible identity of this man has been thoroughly discussed and has been the subject of many books, because no one ever saw his face, which was hidden by a mask of black velvet cloth.

In the second edition of his Questions sur l'Encyclopédie (French for "Questions on the Encyclopedia"), published in 1771, the writer and philosopher Voltaire claimed that the prisoner wore an iron mask and was the older, illegitimate brother of Louis XIV. In the late 1840s, the writer Alexandre Dumas elaborated on the theme in the final installment of his Three Musketeers saga: here the prisoner is forced to wear an iron mask and is Louis XIV's twin brother.

What facts are known about this prisoner are based mainly on correspondence between his jailer and his superiors in Paris.

It was a game-changing night of pub trivia at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday evening, as the current 8-week-long trivia league draws to its conclusion next week.

The league's leaders going into proceedings, the ever-formidable and eight-time champion Miltown Junks, were dethroned from top spot in the table (in the sidebar) after Pluckin' Aint Easy crushed the night's quiz with 49 points...

They now sit one point above their rivals with just one quiz to go - next Monday's bonus round will be a wager category just to spice things up!

image of Uncle Sam, the national personification
of the U.S. first arose during the War of 1812

Uncle Sam is a common national personification of the American government originally used during the War of 1812. He is depicted as a stern elderly man with white hair and a goatee beard. Typically he is dressed in clothing that recalls the design elements of the flag of the United States—for example, a top hat with red and white stripes and white stars on a blue band, and red and white striped trousers. The first use of Uncle Sam in literature was in the 1816 allegorical book The Adventures of Uncle Sam in Search After His Lost Honor by Frederick Augustus Fidfaddy, Esq.

Earlier representative figures of the United States included such beings as "Brother Jonathan," used by Punch magazine. These were overtaken by Uncle Sam somewhere around the time of the Civil War. The female personification "Columbia" has seldom been seen since the 1920s. The well-known "recruitment" image of Uncle Sam was created by James Montgomery Flagg, an illustrator and portrait artist best known for commercial art. The image of Uncle Sam was shown publicly for the first time, according to some, in a picture by Flagg on the cover of the magazine Leslie's Weekly, on July 6, 1916, with the caption "What Are You Doing for Preparedness?" More than four million copies of this image were printed between 1917 and 1918. The image also was used extensively during World War II.

Quiz nite continued as usual this Monday night at the Ale House, as the Brewers hit game two of the NLCS, with the big screen up for viewing....

And although the latter was a night to forget for Milwaukee sports fans, trivia fans were in full force to contest for the usual three prizes.

And it was the team known as In Memory of Steve Jobs, the Last American Who Knew What the Fuck He Was Doing that stole top honors, after winning out in sudden death...

The best team name award was taken by the always-modest team of We know Star Wars and Simpsons but not sports. Guess who wasn't banging broads in High School, although their photo didn't turn out!

And Quizmaster also welcomed back Chicken Coop, who finished admirably in the middle of the pack...

And the show roll on this Monday, pending the Brewers success in the NLCS!

Finally toppled in 1989

The Berlin Wall (German: Berliner Mauer) was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) starting on 13 August 1961, that completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which circumscribed a wide area (later known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, "fakir beds" and other defenses. The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the "will of the people" in building a socialist state in East Germany. In practice, the Wall served to prevent the massive emigration and defection that marked Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc during the post-World War II period.

The Berlin Wall was officially referred to as the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" (German: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) by GDR authorities, implying that neighbouring West Germany had not been fully de-Nazified. The West Berlin city government sometimes referred to it as the "Wall of Shame"—a term coined by mayor Willy Brandt—while condemning the Wall's restriction on freedom of movement. Along with the separate and much longer Inner German border (IGB) that demarcated the border between East and West Germany, both borders came to symbolize the "Iron Curtain" that separated Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War.

Between 1961 and 1989, the wall prevented almost all such emigration. During this period, around 5,000 people attempted to escape over the wall, with estimates of the resulting death toll varying between 100 and 200.

Michael Jackson Jokes... Too Soon?

Another Monday funday in Milwaukee brought another edition of Quizmaster to the fabled Ale House again this week, and although Wisconsin had a raging weekend in sports (Badgers, Brewers & Packers!), the queeps still showed up the very next day for quiz night!

And after last week's debauchery (a perfect score, that is) the QM vowed that no team would hit 100 percent again this Monday.

And while that was indeed the case, it was Milwaukee quiz veterans and two-time Quizmaster Cup champions Miltown Junks that took it all on the night with a tally of 46...

Another bar tab for them... Next week's sudden death question then: how much have the Miltown Junks won in Ale House bar tabs since 2008?

To the nearest $100 please!

Anyway, while we'd love to revel in their fanciness all day long but there were actually other teams vying for Ale House gold...

Second was closely contested as three teams locked horns for a sudden death showdown to determine the $20 tab. Ultimately it was the regular trio of With a 14-Year-Old Boy in the Quiz Your Knew Michael Jackson Would Show Up (or Horse Drawn Miscarriage for league purposes) that stole the prize with their guess of the price of Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball.

That meant that Wasted Education were living up to their name, going home with nothing but smiles and a photo of the QM site...

Good sports nonetheless and we hope they return next time out!

And so the honors for best team name - an award that always gets the minds of Milwaukee working - was still up for grabs, but the timely intervention of newbies Amanda Knox's Conscience (too soon?) got a reaction - perhaps not the right one, but a reaction nonetheless - from the audience...

relative is the elephant

The aardvark is a medium-sized, burrowing, nocturnal mammal native to Africa. It is the only living species of the order Tubulidentata, although other prehistoric species and genera of Tubulidentata are known.

It is sometimes colloquially called "antbear", "anteater", or the "Cape anteater" after the Cape of Good Hope. The name comes from the Afrikaans/Dutch for "earth pig" or "ground pig" (aarde earth/ground, varken pig), because of its burrowing habits (similar origin to the name groundhog). The aardvark is not related to the pig; rather, it is the sole recent representative of the obscure mammalian order Tubulidentata.

The closest living relatives of the aardvark are the elephant shrews, along with the sirenians, hyraxes, tenrecs, and elephants.

An aardvark's weight is typically between 40 and 65 kilograms (88 and 140 lb). An aardvark's length is usually between 1 and 1.3 metres (3.3 and 4.3 ft), and can reach lengths of 2.2 metres (7 ft 3 in) when its tail (which can be up to 70 centimetres (28 in)) is taken into account.

The aardvark has been known to sleep in a recently excavated ant nest, which also serves as protection from its predators.

50... The Magic Number!

It was a night of embarrassment (and one to forget) for Quizmaster founder and chief question writer Ryan W. this Monday night at the Ale House, as, for the fifth time in Quizmaster history, a team had a perfect score!

And with Quizmaster priding itself on a fun-loving and entertaining but never all-conquering quiz night, it was disappointing to us that Plucking Aint Easy had 50 out of 50 on the night...

Basterds!!! They even felt the need to scribble '50' on the front of their sheet. Definitely a date that will live in infamy at Quizmaster HQ.

But all jokes and FDR quotes aside, congrats to them for etching their name among Milwaukee's trivial elite.

Elsewhere, among team's that don't care quite as much about the thinking, but more about the drinking, twas Bizne $$$ that was somewhat new to the game, and huddled up for their team pic...

Boot(s) and balloons, that's all you need! We hope to see them out at the Ale House again soon!

Their fellow quizzers (and friends) The Beautiful People also had their photo snapped, but alas (for some reason) it didn't turn out!

And finally, the night's best team name award went to regular funny-quizzers Gaston Never Had a Chance. Once You Go Beast You Never Go Back....

And yes, he does use antlers in all of his decorating.

Live Aid
The dual-concert raised money for
the famine in Ethiopia in 1985

Live Aid was a dual-venue concert that was held on 13 July 1985. The event was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously in Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people).

On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as Australia and Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time: an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast.

Throughout the concerts, viewers were urged to donate money to the Live Aid cause. Three hundred phone lines were manned by the BBC, so that members of the public could make donations using their credit cards. The phone number and an address that viewers could send cheques to were repeated every twenty minutes.

Nearly seven hours into the concert in London, Bob Geldof enquired how much money had been raised; he was told £1.2 million. He is said to have been sorely disappointed by the amount and marched to the BBC commentary position. Pumped up further by a performance by Queen that he later called "absolutely amazing", Geldof gave an infamous interview in which he used the word 'fuck'. The BBC presenter David Hepworth, conducting the interview, had attempted to provide a list of addresses to which potential donations should be sent; Geldof interrupted him in mid-flow and shouted: "Fuck the address, let's get the numbers!" It has passed into folklore that he yelled at the audience, "Give us your fucking money!" although Geldof has stated that this phrase was never uttered. Private Eye magazine made great capital out of these outbursts, emphasising Geldof's accent which meant the profanities were heard as "fock" and "focking". After the outburst, giving increased to £300 per second.

It was another lively night of drinking and thinking at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday, as the bar's trivia league rolls on.

After a challenging bonus round and a tricky soccer question, the latter proved the difference in the end as ironically I Missed the Season Premier of 2 1/2 Men for... Fourth Place?! took first place on the night...

They aced the three point soccer question, which again proved to edge them onto 46 points for the win!

Second place was reserved for Urethra Franklin's Streaming Hits...

Even though Laura's trying to hide, we told her we'd make a point in this post... LAURA!

Newbies Screamin Tunas weren't too shy and smiled for a post-quiz pic...

And seeing as some of their team members can only make it out to the Ale House every so often, we also got a snap of the Ineffectuals...

Intentionally provactive, they are.

But following some of the night's questions about Chuck 'roundhouse kick to the face' Norris, Barbie and Ker-plunk, among others, it was When Chuck Norris Kerplunks Barbie He Makes White Christmas that took best team name...

A baseball uniform is a type of uniform worn by baseball players. Most baseball uniforms have the names and uniform numbers of players who wear them, usually on the backs of the uniforms to distinguish players from one other. Baseball shirts (jerseys), pants, shoes, socks, caps, and glove are parts of baseball uniforms. Most uniforms have different logos and colors to tell which team is which. Uniforms are also worn to identify the two teams and officials apart.

Baseball uniforms were first worn by the New York Knickerbockers Baseball Club in 1849. Today, sales of replica uniforms and derivative branded products generate large amounts of income for Major League teams through merchandising.

The New York Knickerbockers were the first baseball team to wear uniforms, taking the field on April 4, 1849 in pants made of blue wool, white flannel shirts and straw hats. The practice of wearing a uniform soon spread, and by 1900, all Major League Baseball teams had adopted them. By 1882 most uniforms included stockings, which covered the leg from foot to knee, and were used to differentiate one club from another. The uniforms themselves had different colors and patterns that reflected the different baseball positions. In the late 1880s, the Detroit Wolverines and Washington Nationals of the National League and the Brooklyn Bridegrooms of the American Association were the first to wear striped uniforms.

It was nothing short of an interesting night of pub trivia at the Milwaukee Ale House again on Monday night.

Many regulars showed their faces, in what would eventually be a closely affair, with a three-way (giggity) tie at the top of the standings in the end.

That meant, as is the case, that sudden death would ensue, and teams had to determine the number of broken bones suffered by Evil Knievel during his career.

Miltown Junks, the seasoned Milwaukee pub quiz veterans, answered with 427....

Which ended up being the closest answer to the correct tally of 433! Needless to say, one team member was very proud of the feat and asked to take home the sudden death card with him....

We think it's going in a nice frame!

That meant second place went to the ever-present Text and Drive, playing under the moniker Dixie Whatever His Name Wishes He Had Painted His Testicles Orange So He Wouldn't Have Lost It....

Their team name referenced the football legend Dixie Dean (who lost a testicle in a tackle in the 1930s) and the color of an aircraft's flight recorder, aka a "black box."

Funny stuff!

Elsewhere, My Fantasy Football Team Can Beat Up Your Honor Student were vying for the best team name honors...

While several other teams, namely Too Distracted By Boobs were referencing one of the night's picture questions....

That was the "real or fake boobs" question that was the talk of the town last night!

But ultimately the night's best name was another Dixie Dean/missing testicle one, in the shape and form of I Left My Heart in San Francisco and I Lost My Testicle in a Slide Tackle....

Snap! The (shit) show continues as ever next Monday. Gents are invited to bring both testicle with them, as Dixie Dean's grandson will be hosting the sports and leisure round...

Angel Falls (meaning "waterfall of the deepest place", or meaning "the fall from the highest point") is a waterfall in Venezuela.

It is the world's highest waterfall, with a height of 979 m (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 m (2,648 ft). The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State. The height figure 979 m (3,212 ft) mostly consists of the main plunge but also includes about 400 m (0.25 mi) of sloped cascades and rapids below the drop and a 30 m (98 ft) high plunge downstream of the talus rapids.

Before reaching the ground, much of the water is dissipated as mist.

Angel Falls is one of Venezuela's top tourist attractions, though a trip to the falls is a complicated affair. The falls are located in an isolated jungle, and a flight from Puerto Ordaz or Ciudad Bolívar is required to reach Canaima camp, the starting point for river trips to the base of the falls. River trips generally take place from June to December, when the rivers are deep enough for the wooden curiaras used by the Pemon guides. During the dry season (December to March) there is less water seen than in the other months (this can be clearly seen in the photos of the falls above).

In 2009 was nominated to compete in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, reaching third place of the 77 most voted wonders in the world. Angel Falls entered the final group of the 28 most popular and now is among the first in the ranking

A fresh 8-week quiz league kicked off at the Milwaukee Ale House this Monday as the previous one had ended last week.

Following a TV theme songs wager bonus round, it was defending league champs Miltown Junks that started where they left off last week, with a quiz win, missing just one answer!

They were followed by the crew of Every Time You Text and Drive... who took second spot...

As always the gong for best team name (a whole 10 dolla!) was closely contested with the ladies of 40-48% Sure We Have No Idea What We ARE Doing thinking the prize was theirs to loose...

But in the end it was My Kraken Has One Buscemi Eye (referencing two of the night's questions) that walked away with the people's vote and the people's prize...

They pulled out the one-eyed pose for their pic!

Aaaargh! You look like a bunch of smelly pirate hookers!

Christopher Columbus (c. 31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an explorer, colonizer, and navigator, born in the Republic of Genoa, in northwestern Italy. Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that led to general European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. Those voyages, and his efforts to establish permanent settlements in the island of Hispaniola, initiated the process of Spanish colonization, which foreshadowed the general European colonization of the "New World".

In the context of emerging western imperialism and economic competition between European kingdoms seeking wealth through the establishment of trade routes and colonies, Columbus' far-fetched proposal to reach the East Indies by sailing westward received the support of the Spanish crown, which saw in it a promise, however remote, of gaining the upper hand over rival powers in the contest for the lucrative spice trade with Asia. Quiz League Conclusion! Trivia Continues this Labor Day!

Well, twas an excellent end to an excellent trivia league at the Mke Ale House this past Monday. The venue's 8-week quiz league concluded on the night as the scores of 10 regular team were tallied up with each team's two lowest being dropped.

In what proved to be a closely contested affair until about week six of the league, in the end the "experience" of trivia veterans Miltown Junks was too much for the chasing pack as they took away a record 8th quiz league championship...

Just a day after winning the Quizmaster Pirate Cruise too! Aaarrgh!

That meant that a honorable and well-deserved second place in the league race went to the crew of Every Time You Text and Drive...

No Pen Gin this week?

And with five bar tabs to give away (to five different teams) that meant that Urethra Franklin's Dumpster Punch took the night's first place prize of $45...

They can finally drop the 'Urethra' moniker next week as a new league begins on Labor Day!

Elsewhere, the night's runners-up spot went to Marooned is the New Urethra Franklin (also making fun of the Quizmaster's pronounciation of certain words), who also finish third in the league...

And the people's prize for best team name went to the classic name of Rattle Snakes and Condoms: Two Things I Don't Fuck With....

We've heard that one before, but still a classic!

Everybody Say..... Aaaarrrgh!! Pirate Cruise Recap!

Well, twas a glorious day of quizzin', cruisin' and piracy aboard Milwaukee's Voyageur this past Sun'day. 18 crews were battlin' it out for the finest booty on the seven seas (or five Great Lakes, for that 'ere matter!)

Sundials were marked for 2pm, as Mke's finest-dressed (and a few last-minute "let's see what crap we can find in our closet" dressed) quizzers jumped aboard the Milwaukee Boat Line to become the first annual Quizmaster Pirate Cruise champions!

And with the Pirate theme being a strong one during the day's questions some teams didn't disappoint with their attire....

Notably the tied-third-place finishing Dirty Pirate Hookers...

They quickly went back to their home on Whore Island following the cruise...

And Why is All the Rum Gone? also came dressed to impress, but their idea of "piracy" was a little outside the box....

You want DVD - 5 dolla?!

And the girls of Running Jorts also had their mean (foam) swords and hats ready for the get-go...

While team Highbury - aka The Albino Somali Pirates - had a modern spin on their pirate garments...

Armed with guns, a grenade launchers, a shark and a real-life hostage! And yes, trust those Somalians to be Chelsea fans!

A couple of Navy Seals next time and you'll have the full package!

And so, with all the commotion and excitement of the dress-up consuming the day, their was actually a quiz to be had as well!

Aaaarrgh!!!

And so the day's game followed the usual six-round pen-and-paper format....

With some interesting picture questions to follow as well....

And after a trivia trail bonus round, in which the last letter of the previous answer was the first letter of the next answer, Milwaukee's finest pirate queeps tallied up their quiz scores from the possible 60 points available!

In the end, a number of teams were closely contested in the middle of the pack, including Thar She Blows! Aka Cum on My Poop Deck!...

As did Milwaukee Ale House regulars I'm Planking Some Booty... In My Pants!....

And speaking of planking - that strange phenomenon consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location - several of the pirates aboard, including Quizmaster Sam W., were demonstrating their love of the fad...

Aaaaarrrrrgh! There be a lot of plankin'!!!!

And then there was the Somali version of planking....

But, all planking aside, their was a four-way (giggity) tie for third place, paving the way for Squad 666 to step in and take second place on 55 points....

They teamed up with Quizmaster Ryan for their winning photo and took home some Milwaukee Brewers tickets as well as some pirate booty for their efforts!

And it was Quizmaster Cup III and Quizmaster Cup V champions, Milwaukee quiz veterans Violet Junks that sneaked ahead of them on 56 points to claim yet another trophy for their quiz cabinet....

Aaaaarrrgh!!!!

But, just when all the scallywags thought it was over, the treasure chest (the finest booty in all the land....aaaarrrgh!) was still up for grabs - for the best dressed team.

And having considered all the factors to win - originality, creativeness, props, number of team members dressed up, and overall awesome theme - it was really no contest as those Albino Somali Pirates were the Quizmaster's pick for best dressed....

Everybody say ~~cheese~~ aaaarrrrgh!

Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas",
it is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World

Machu Picchu ("Old Peak") is a pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World.

The Incas started building the "estate" around AD 1400, but abandoned it as an official site for the Inca rulers a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of what the structures originally looked like. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored. The restoration work continues to this day.

Since the site was never known to the Spanish during their conquest, it is highly significant as a relatively intact cultural site. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll.

League Finale Next Week! (Pirate Cruise This Sunday!)

Shiver Me Timbers! The Quizmaster Pirate Cruise be this Sunday at 2pm! We be still 'ccepting pirate who can sign up here! Aargh!

It was the penultimate week of the quiz league at the Ale House this Monday night. The regular queeps were in full force, as the 8-week league comes to conclusion this upcoming Monday.

In the end, it was a combination of two team - known on the night as Every Time Your Ineffectually Text and Drive - that won the night's game with a score of 48...

They were one point ahead of two other teams - league leaders Miltown Junks and An Idiot and a Broad - with the latter coming out on top in a sudden death round to take second spot in the end...

The Ale House also welcomed a number of newcomers - from teams Greak White Lark and the Casey Anthony Babysitting Club (among others) who teamed up for a giant team picture at the end...

Damn! That's a lotta quiz peeps!

And the unique prize for best team name went the way of Hungry for Michael Phelp's $5 Foot Long (referencing a certain picture question), who seem to have a knack in recent weeks for winning the $10 tab...

Last place in the league but still a winner every now and then ;)

The league concludes on Monday with the Pirate Cruise on Sunday!

Edgar Hoover, Director of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, and William Kinsey Hutchinson, International News Service (the predecessor of the United Press International) Editor-in-Chief, who were discussing ways to promote capture of the FBI's "toughest guys". This discussion turned into a published article, which received so much positive publicity that on March 14, 1950, the FBI officially announced the list to increase law enforcement's ability to capture dangerous fugitives.

Individuals are removed from this list if the fugitive is captured, killed, or if the charges against them are dropped; they are then replaced by a new entry selected by the FBI. In five cases, the FBI removed individuals from the list after deciding that they were no longer a "particularly dangerous menace to society". Víctor Manuel Gerena, added to the list in 1984, has been on the list longer than anyone, at 27 years. Billie Austin Bryant spent the shortest amount of time on the list, being listed for two hours in 1969. On rare occasions, the FBI will add a "Number Eleven" if that individual is extremely dangerous but the Bureau does not feel any of the current ten should be removed.

The list is commonly posted in public places such as post offices. In some cases, fugitives on the list have turned themselves in on becoming aware of their listing. As of November 1, 2009, 494 fugitives have been listed (eight of them women), and 463 (94%) captured or located, 152 (33%) of them due to public assistance.

Cunning Indeed Mateys! Pirate Cruise Next Sunday, Spots Running Low!

Aargh! The Quizmaster Pirate Cruise be just about a week away! Mateys be signin' up now, with only room for 150 pirates - 50 percent sold out already!....

It was another night of quizzin' and suggestive innuendos at the Milwaukee Ale House on Monday. Despite the hangover of the century, the Quizmaster and co rolled in and the show continued as the league draws towards its climax.

On the night, the Quizmaster didn't get any pics of the top two teams (they've been photographed far too much in the past), but it was in the end an epic sudden death duel with those Miltown Junks coming out on top.

In My Pants, always in the hunt for prizes (although usually the best team name one) were at the top, but due to an extra player their was dropped to 42 points and they settled for third place...

Oops! And a blurry picture too! We hope to see them on the Quizmaster Pirate Cruise, mateys!

Not too stunning, but, hey, $10 is $10 and they took it gladly!

Only two weeks left in the league, with Miltown have opened a slight lead of 5 points, but anything and everything can happen!

thousands of Irish to migrate to America

In Ireland, the Great Famine was a period of mass starvation, disease and emigration between 1845 and 1852. It is also known, mostly outside Ireland, as the Irish Potato Famine. In the Irish language it is called an Gorta Mór (IPA: [ənˠ ˈɡɔɾˠtˠə ˈmˠoːɾˠ], meaning "the Great Hunger") or an Drochshaol ([ənˠ ˈdˠɾɔxˌhiːlˠ], meaning "the bad times").

During the famine approximately 1 million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland, causing the island's population to fall by between 20% and 25%. The proximate cause of famine was a potato disease commonly known as potato blight. Although blight ravaged potato crops throughout Europe during the 1840s, the impact and human cost in Ireland — where one-third of the population was entirely dependent on the potato for food—was exacerbated by a host of political, social and economic factors which remain the subject of historical debate.

The famine was a watershed in the history of Ireland. Its effects permanently changed the island's demographic, political and cultural landscape. For both the native Irish and those in the resulting diaspora, the famine entered folk memory and became a rallying point for various nationalist movements as Ireland was then part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Modern historians regard it as a dividing line in the Irish historical narrative, referring to the preceding period of Irish history as "pre-Famine".

Aargh! Me quiz hearties be invited to peer into the depths of Lake Michigan aboard the 1st annual Quizmaster Pirate Cruise. Mateys be signin' up now, with only room for 150 pirates....

Another Monday brought another quiz night to the Milwaukee Ale House this week, in which we all remembered that The Little Mermaid taught us (and our children, and someday our children's children) that "wetter is better."

However, the quiz ultimately resulted in another win for league leaders Miltown Junks...

The whole team stayed for the photo this week :)

Second place was occupied by the team known as Marky Mark's Magnificent Mercenaries...

Definitely an interesting thought!

And Quizmaster welcomed back The Canadian Royal Wedding (...as is tradition), as a couple of their members returned from a long stint in Korea (the southern one, that is)...

Portrayed by Hawaiian actor Harold Sakata

Oddjob is a henchman to the villain Auric Goldfinger in the film and novel. In the film he was played by the Hawaiian actor Harold Sakata.

Oddjob is one of the most popular characters in the Bond series. He is superior in unarmed combat skills to Bond in both film and novel, and therefore must be killed by application of superior cunning (by uncontrolled decompression in the book and electrocution in the film).

In the beginning of the film, Oddjob is first seen only via silhouette against a wall as he knocks Bond unconscious at the Fontainebleau Hotel, after which he or Goldfinger kills Jill Masterton (with whom Bond had spent the night) through "skin suffocation" by painting her entire body with gold paint. When Bond meets Goldfinger for a game of golf, Oddjob is seen for the first time in full. He only has four lines of sparse dialogue throughout the film: in the first, upon pretending to have found Goldfinger's missing golf ball, he exclaims "Aha!" The second time, after killing Tilly Masterton, he instructs his men to dispose of her body by merely pointing at them and saying "Ah! Ah!" In the third, he says "Ah!" to order Bond to put on a gas mask before entering Fort Knox. His final line is a scream of pain when he is killed.

Oddjob acts as Goldfinger's personal chauffeur, bodyguard and golf caddy. He wears what appears to be a bowler hat (though at times it looks like a top hat) lined with a metal razor disk in the rim, using it as a lethal flying disc of sorts (this is a bowler hat in the novel, and as such, would have had a round top). It is very powerful, capable of decapitating a stone statue. He later uses it to kill Tilly Masterton by breaking her neck. Physically he is extremely strong and durable, demonstrating his strength in a number of scenes including one where he crushes a golf ball with one hand, as well as during the climactic fight scene with Bond in which he is struck in the chest by a gold bar thrown at him, and struck in the head with a wooden object used as a club. He barely flinches after both these attacks, and is otherwise practically invincible against Bond's futile hand-to-hand combat tactics. However, he is never mentioned to be a karate expert.

Farewell Sarah! A Quiz night with Sentiment...

It was a bittersweet night of quizzin' at the Milwaukee Ale House this past Monday night, as Quizmaster said goodbye to one of it's longest-serving (if not THE longest-serving) queep in its five year history.

An entertaining quiz was brought to a close as a member of those formidable Dead Babies Will Save Michael J Fox, Ms. Sarah Pemelton (pictured in red, next to the QM), said goodbye to Milwaukee...

Their team name was a little longer than usual as Sarah had a goodbye message for all: "I'm leaving for Pennsylvania on Sunday so this Dead Baby wants to say goodbye to her awesome team mates, excellent Quizmaster, and all you lovely people in Milwaukee, I will miss you when I'm studying law at Penn State. Cheers!"

They were eventually awarded the prize for best name (or really, a life quiz achievement award), despite all the camel toe jokes.

And we do wish Sarah all the best :)

In other news, the top of the standings was closely contested, as those Miltown Junk(s) took pole position after a tense sudden death round...

Yes, the rest of the team deserted poor Angela, who posed gracefully for her team's pic in the end!

And then the Quizmaster roamed around trying to get more photos, although people seemed to be avoiding the opportunity. Those Ineffectuals, however, were happy to smile for the cameras...

It was great to see the ladies front row and center again ;)

And the night's sentimental value continued as the QM's family was in town from London and finished on a respectable 41 points under the name "Are You Australian? No..."...

South African, New Zealander, Scottish... It's all the same apparently!

The quiz league rolls on and is now at the half way stage, with An Idiot and a Broad taking a slim lead after all team's byes are subtracted!

The iconic statue lies at the peak of
Rio de Janeiro's Corcovado mountain

Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor) is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; considered the second largest Art Deco statue in the world. It is 39.6 metres (130 ft) tall, including its 9.5 metres (31 ft) pedestal, and 30 metres (98 ft) wide. It weighs 635 tonnes (625 long,700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city. A symbol of Christianity, the statue has become an icon of Rio and Brazil. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.

The idea for erecting a large statue atop Corcovado was first suggested in the mid-1850s, when Catholic priest Pedro Maria Boss requested financing from Princess Isabel to build a large religious monument. Princess Isabel did not think much of the idea and it was dismissed in 1889, when Brazil became a republic with laws mandating the separation of church and state. The second proposal for a landmark statue on the mountain was made in 1921 by the Catholic Circle of Rio. The group organised an event called Semana do Monumento ("Monument Week") to attract donations and collect signatures to support the building of the statue. The donations came mostly from Brazilian Catholics. The designs considered for the "Statue of the Christ" included a representation of the Christian cross, a statue of Jesus with a globe in his hands, and a pedestal symbolizing the world. The statue of Christ the Redeemer with open arms, a symbol of peace, was chosen.

It was an exhilarating night of quizzin' at the Third Ward's Milwaukee Ale House this Monday night as the bar was packed for trivia night.

The Northwestern Mutual convention brought some additional minds to the forefront of Milwaukee pub quizzing this week but it was still regulars I Would Hate to do Coke With Mr. Snuffleupagus that top the charts and took away $45 in the end...

They were followed closely by league competitors Urethra Franklin is no Pianist, who finished just one point back on 44 points...

And it proved a tough quiz for some of the top teams in the end, with five teams finishing on 42 points. Just remember - Agrabar is not a desert!

One of the team to finish on 42 would not go away empty handed, as No, No, No... Too Soon! split the $10 tab for best team name amongst themselves....

That's just under a whopping $1.43 each!

And the Quizmaster wanted to get a snap of Last Chance Undies, who were unofficially the most fun team on the evening, given themselves a large shout out during the name-reading at the end...

We hope to them back and blazin' next time out!

Article of the Week - The Thinker

The Thinker
August Rodin's trademark piece was
originally entitled "The Poet."

The Thinker is a bronze and marble sculpture by Auguste Rodin, whose first cast, of 1902, is now in the Musée Rodin in Paris; there are some twenty other original castings as well as various other versions, studies, and posthumous castings. It depicts a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. It is often used to represent philosophy.

Originally named The Poet, the piece was part of a commission by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris to create a monumental portal to act as the door of the museum. Rodin based his theme on The Divine Comedy of Dante and entitled the portal The Gates of Hell. Each of the statues in the piece represented one of the main characters in the epic poem. The Thinker was originally meant to depict Dante in front of the Gates of Hell, pondering his great poem. (In the final sculpture, a miniature of the statue sits atop the gates, pondering the hellish fate of those beneath him.) The sculpture is nude, as Rodin wanted a heroic figure in the tradition of Michelangelo, to represent intellect as well as poetry.

If You Smell, What the Quizmaster's Cooking...

It was a jammed house at the Ale House this Monday night as 16 got involved and got their quiz on in the Third Ward again this week.

It was a closely contested battle among some of Milwaukee's trivia elite (and then some other people too) as three teams tied in the end for second place. Ultimately that battle was won by Dead Babies Will Save Michael J Fox who determined the closest answer to the year in which mini-golf was invented (1927 people!)

The award for top spot went to the Foundations-inspired team of Why Do You Build Me Up IN MY PANTS Baby, Just to Let Me Down?, who recorded a $45 bar tab for their troubles...

It's been a while since they've been on top (giggity), but we're pleased to see 'em there!

In best team name news, it was the team referencing some good ol' cooking that prize....

Yeah, that pixelated image was one of the night's picture questions and gave team Casey Anthony Deserves the People's Elbow the people's prize - $10 for best team name!

In other news, it's always good to see the team known as We're Wisconsinites, What Do They Call Your Kind Ryan?, who returned for their tri-annual appearance at the Ale House....

What a bunch of hotties! (and the two blokes)

The final of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup was played between Japan and the United States. The match took place in Commerzbank-Arena, in Frankfurt, Germany on 17 July 2011. Japan won on a penalty shoot-out following a 2–2 draw after extended time, becoming the first Asian team to win a FIFA World Cup final.

The match was a matchup between the United States, which has been a major power in women's association football since winning the inaugural World Cup championship, and Japan, which had never won a major world title, or indeed even reached the finals of a major world competition.

The United States was bidding to become the first team to win a third world championship, having won in 1991 and 1999. Japan became the fourth team to win a world championship, joining the United States, Norway, and Germany.

The match was the third between the two teams in World Cup play. The United States beat Japan 3–0 in pool play in 1991, and won 4–0 in a 1995 quarterfinal match. Going into the final, the USA had never lost to Japan, with 22 wins and 3 draws. Prior to the World Cup, the United States was the top-ranked team in the FIFA Women's World Rankings, while Japan was ranked fourth.

This marked the first time that a team would win the World Cup having lost a match in pool play.

Japan became only the second Asian national team to reach the FIFA Women's World Cup Final. This was also only the second final not involving a European team, following China's final appearance against the United States in 1999.

Urethra Alert!! New League Gets Underway!

Milwaukee's finest queeps were re-energized and ready to go this Monday for quiz night at the Ale House, having had a break last week due to Independence Day!

It was the start of a fresh trivia league as well, with several teams vying to have the best overall score over the next 8 weeks.

But it was the trivia juggernaut that is An Idiot and a Broad that stole the show with a impressive 47 from 50 points and a $45 tab on the night...

And we'd like to say farewell (for now, at least) to Steve Peach who's heading back to Chi-town. We're sure we'll see him again soon!

Second spot was closely contested, as three teams were just 1 point back of first on 46 points. The sudden death round, testing each team's knowledge of the Space Shuttle (and specifically it's length!), proved to be a good one for Every Time You Text and Drive, who eventually emerged victorious, no thanks to their mascot Pen Gin...

Yes, that stuffed arctic (or should that be Antarctic?) creature, who looks a lot like the legendary Pingu (inset), has its own Facebook page!

In other news, Quizmaster welcomed Hypnos to the fun and games, although given that they were sitting in the other room, they had a hard time hearing some of the questions...

They gladly smiled for their quiz pic and blamed their "mediocre" score on their positioning in the bar!

Mongolia is a landlocked country in East and Central Asia. It is bordered by Russia to the north and the People's Republic of China to the south, east and west. Although Mongolia does not share a border with Kazakhstan, its western-most point is only 38 kilometres (24 mi) from Kazakhstan's eastern tip. Ulan Bator, the capital and largest city, is home to about 45% of the population.

The Mongol Empire was founded by Genghis Khan in 1206. At the end of the 17th century, most of Mongolia had been incorporated into the area ruled by the Qing Dynasty. During the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, Mongolia declared independence, but had to struggle until 1921 to firmly establish de facto independence from the Republic of China, and until 1945 to gain international recognition.

At 1,564,116 square kilometres (603,909 sq mi), Mongolia is the 19th largest and the most sparsely populated independent country in the world, with a population of around 2.75 million people. It is also the world's second-largest landlocked country after Kazakhstan. The country contains very little arable land, as much of its area is covered by steppes, with mountains to the north and west and the Gobi Desert to the south. Approximately 30% of the population are nomadic or semi-nomadic. The predominant religion in Mongolia is Tibetan Buddhism, and the majority of the state's citizens are of the Mongol ethnicity, though Kazakhs, Tuvans, and other minorities also live in the country, especially in the west. Miltown Makes It Seven! No Quiz on July 4th!

Monday night at the Milwaukee Ale House brought the bar's 21st trivia league to conclusion this week. As Quizmaster's longest running location, and premier trivia destination, the Ale House league has proven the cream-of-the-crop in the Mke-Metro-area! Fact!

And so, it's a distinguished honor to take top spot over an 8-week-spell at the Ale House, and Miltown Junks (who themselves are one of Quizmaster's longest serving teams) recorded their seventh quiz league title at the Ale House this past Monday...

Their ongoing rivalry with the fearsome Fancy Restaurants went to the wire, as both teams were tied on league points going into the night's game. The MJ's outscored them on the night, taking league glory by two points!

Congrats to all the teams that made the most recent league a success!

In other news, the night's game was an entertaining one, with an Urban Dictionary bonus round featuring and asking the true meaning of words such as "Bitch," "Spatula" and "Lady Gaga."

And the film and tele round featured the always-impressive "real or fake" film posters, including a film that is fake, but one that everyone would like to see made at some time in the future...

Just remember: it's "in association with the other Bush administration!"

The night's winners (yes, five tabs to dish out!) came in the shape and form of Ryan's Faux Suede Shoes... or Slippers, who were approving (or not, may be?) of the Quizmaster's new footwear...

While second place went to An Idiot and a Broad, who were proud to record a bar tab win without their dynamic duo present...

And the night's best team name honor went the way of newcomers Throbbing Goosenecks (they told the QM to Urban Dictionary their name - it didn't show up!), who had a front row seat...

We hope to seem them back next time!

Robert Roy MacGregor (baptised 7 March 1671 – 28 December 1734), usually known simply as Rob Roy or alternately Red MacGregor, was a famous Scottish folk hero and outlaw of the early 18th century, who is sometimes known as the Scottish Robin Hood. Rob Roy is anglicised from the Scottish Gaelic Raibeart Ruadh, or Red Robert. This is because Rob Roy had red hair, though it darkened to auburn in later life.

Along with many Highland clans, at the age of eighteen Rob Roy together with his father joined the Jacobite rising led by Viscount Dundee to support the Stuart King James who had been deposed by William of Orange. Although victorious in initial battles, "Bonnie Dundee" was killed and their fortunes fell. Rob’s father was taken to jail, where he was held on treason charges for two years. Rob’s mother Margaret’s health faltered and then failed during Donald’s time in prison. By the time Donald was finally released, his wife was dead, and his reason for living also gone. The Gregor chief never returned to his former spirit or health.

Rob Roy was badly wounded at the Battle of Glen Shiel in 1719 which saw the defeat of a Jacobite and Spanish expedition aiming to restore the Stuart monarchy.

A full house at the Ale House this week saw 94 queeps involved on quiz night, but only three prizes to spare.

In the end, it was those Fancy Restaurants that took top spot, missing just a single point from 50. They sit top of the league, tied with foes Miltown Junks with just one week to play!

The other prizes on the night went to Ty Pennington is A Homewrecker for best name...

$10 the richer!

Elsewhere, it was good to see the Bark Twice gang (of old, that is) reunited and in the front row for the show...

And We Tweeted With Wiener were new to the game and posed for their first QM pic...

The 1915 Chicago Whales played their home games
at Weeghman Park, today known as Wrigley Field

The Chicago Whales were a Federal League baseball club in Chicago from 1914 to 1915. The Whales won the Federal League championship in 1915.

Founded by Charles Weeghman, the club finished 1½ games behind the Indianapolis Hoosiers in the inaugural season for the league, during which the team lacked a formal nickname and was known simply as the Chicago Federals (or Chi-Feds). Prior to the start of the season, Weeghman built a stadium for the team, called Weeghman Park, designed by Zachary Taylor Davis, who had previously designed Comiskey Park. Now known as Wrigley Field and used by the Chicago Cubs, it is the only Federal League stadium still in use.

In the league's second and final season, the Chicago Federals adopted the nickname Whales, and included the logo of a whale inside a large "C" on their uniform shirts. The Whales won the league championship, finishing with 86 wins and 66 losses, percentage points ahead of the St. Louis Terriers' 87–67 record. When Kenesaw Mountain Landis brokered a deal between the Federal League, American League and National League that ended the Federal League's existence, Weeghman was allowed to purchase the Cubs. Weeghman abandoned the wooden West Side Park and moved his team into his new steel-and-concrete structure, where they remain today. Weeghman had purchased a 99-year lease on the property, which would presumably expire in the year 2013.

QM Sam stepped in for one night at The Ale House this week as Ryan took a trip back to London for the week.

Thirteen teams gathered to indulge in the $2.50 pints and test their knowledge in six rounds of trivia...

The usual suspects arrived in good spirits to compete for the three prizes on the night, with a few new teams making an appearance also.

We did see The Ineffectuals spice things up a bit following QM Sam's appearance. As they added "Wickens the lesser still needs to be taken over my knee and spanked" to the forefront of their team name...

Top dogs on the night was You have no idea how much we wanted Ozzy to break his neck falling off either a mechanical bull or sharon with a smashing 46 points on the night...

An amazing haul for the quizzical trio!

Second place on the night was decided by sudden death, as four teams tied on 45 points on the evening...

We posed the following question to decide who would win: In which year did Roger Bannister become the first person on record to run a mile in under four minutes?

Text and Drive said: 1935
Trojan... Magnum... said: 1937
The Fancy Restaurants said: 1955
In My Pants said: 1964

The correct answer was 1954 which meant The Fancy Restaurants stole the second place prize, a $20 bar certificate. Unfortunately they left at a hurried pace, and we were unable to grab a picture of the Sudden Death victors.

Nonetheless, best team name prize was decided by a round of applause. It was Much like Lebron ... We had trouble finishing ... In my pants who got the loudest cheer, as they won the $10 bar certificate...

Ryan returns next week to take care of business, get involved with the $2.50 pints!

"Hey Jude" is a song by the English rock band The Beatles. Credited to Lennon/McCartney, the ballad evolved from "Hey Jules", a song Paul McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son Julian during his parents' divorce. "Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure based around McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses to distinguish sections. So That's What Happened to My Stash!

Well, it's was an intriguing night of quizzin' at the Ale House, Milwaukee Third Ward division, this Monday night.

Quizzers returned after a few missed out last week due to the Memorial Day weekend drunkenness, and the QM welcomed back those Ineffectuals who were not making fun of the mighty West Ham United this week...

They finished in an admirable fifth place and had their usual front row center seat.

Top of the table was reserved for Dead Babies Will Save Michael J Fox, who aced the 51 point game with a score 48....

Also good enough to keep them at the top of the league standings too.

And also, in somewhat controversial fashion, due to a scoring error (damn handwriting) on the night, the Miltown Junks were incorrectly tallied at 47 points, when it should have been 48 points. They were given the extra point after the prizes were dished out (important for league purposes people!) and the QM promised he'd get them a round of drinks next time out!

No harm done then!

In other news, the Quizmaster wasn't certain whether these guys were the Slut Puppies or not...

They show up so rarely these days that it's kinda hard to pick them out...

And the best team name gong referenced the night's classic newspaper headline...

Canadian newspapers: only good for one thing...

Best team name went the way of the Bark Twice crew who were claiming that they were Still Waiting For their Condom Shipment to Arrive....

The first electric traffic light in Cleveland
had just two colors: green and red

On December 10, 1868, the first traffic lights were installed outside the British Houses of Parliament in London, by the railway engineer J. P. Knight. They resembled railway signals of the time, with semaphore arms and red and green gas lamps for night use. The gas lantern was turned with a lever at its base so that the appropriate light faced traffic. Unfortunately, it exploded on 2 January 1869, injuring or killing the policeman who was operating it.

The modern electric traffic light is an American invention. As early as 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah, policeman Lester Wire invented the first red-green electric traffic lights. On 5 August 1914, the American Traffic Signal Company installed a traffic signal system on the corner of East 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. It had two colors, red and green, and a buzzer, based on the design of James Hoge, to provide a warning for color changes. The design by James Hoge allowed police and fire stations to control the signals in case of emergency. The first four-way, three-color traffic light was created by police officer William Potts in Detroit, Michigan in 1920. In 1922, T.E. Hayes patented his "Combination traffic guide and traffic regulating signal" (Patent # 1447659). Ashville, Ohio claims to be the location of the oldest working traffic light in the United States, used at an intersection of public roads until 1982 when it was moved to a local museum.

Memorial Day brought a slightly lighter crowd than usual at the Ale House this Monday night. A few regulars quizzers we evidently missing but the show went on to full effect regardless!...

And it was fitting for the Text and Drive crew, who amounted to 45 points and a quiz victory...

They weren't complaining about few quizzers!

Elsewhere, newcomers Adios Amigos jumped into the game a few questions late, but had a front row seat throughout...

And the best team name prize was reserved for the team formerly known as An Idiot and a Broad, who remarked about the QM's lovely shoes on the night...

Gilligan's Island is an American television situation comedy created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz and originally produced by United Artists Television. The series featured Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells. It aired for three seasons on the CBS network, from September 26, 1964, to September 4, 1967. Originally sponsored by Philip Morris & Company and Procter & Gamble, the show followed the comic adventures of seven castaways as they attempted to survive and ultimately escape from the island where they were shipwrecked. Their escape plans constantly fail because Gilligan goofs up or visitors to the island leave without sending help.

Gilligan's Island ran for a total of 98 episodes. The first season, consisting of 36 episodes, was filmed in black-and-white. These episodes were later colorized for syndication. The show's second and third seasons (62 episodes) and the three television movie sequels were filmed in color.

Enjoying solid ratings during its original run, the show grew in popularity during decades of syndication, especially in the 1970s and '80s when many markets ran the show in the late afternoon after school. Today, the title character of Gilligan is widely recognized as an American cultural icon.

Buscemi was on a Plane Once! Quiz Continues on Memorial Day!

Another Monday brought another thrilling night of Quizmaster to the Ale House (Third Ward edition) this week.

It was week three of the bar's current trivia league (remember, keep a consistent team name people!) and the Ale House was full to the brim ahead of the night's game.

As always, it was good to see fresh faces in the crowd again, including Mom Plus Four, even though the Quizmaster couldn't read their writing...

They were joined by their sister-team in the shape and form of Flaming Flamboyant Fairies, who the Quizmaster could spot a from a mile-off...

Hesitant for a photo at first, but in the end they saw the light!

In other news, it was the regular gents of The Table Next to Us is Using Their Iphone that were being honest and vigilant as ever...

And, by the way, that team using their Iphone only placed in the middle of the pack! The Quizmaster game is uncheatable people!

Elsewhere, the regulars of An Idiot and a Broad felt it necessary to rub salt in the QM's wounds by naming themselves What's Claret and Blue and Slides Down Tables? on the night...

Shockingly that was not the only reference to West Ham's relegation this weekend! (Ineffectuals)!

In the end, the quiz went to a three-way sudden death battle between three of the Ale House's top and longest serving teams, but ultimately The Fancy Restaurants secured first placed, while arch rivals Miltown Junks took second...

And so, once again, we've saved the best til last: the titanic battle for best team name...

And there were some good ones on the night, as Bark Twice If You Will Do Anything to Keep Adele and Steve Buscemi From Having Sex made a valid point in reference to the "chicks with Buscemi eyes" picture question...

And their was another clever reference from bottom feeders Chicks with Buscemi Dicks, who felt they needed to illustrate their name...

But in the end the Quizmaster decided to go against the grain and pick the team that reference Samuel L. Jackson's greatest movie quote...

We present I've Got a Mother Fucking Snake in My Mother Fucking Pants!...

Now $10 the richer!

Imagine if they would have somehow tied in the chicks With Buscemi eyes with Snakes on a Plane (perhaps a Con Air reference!?)
